If you’re pressing rosin, you know yield is everything. The right techniques can make the difference between a high return of golden rosin and a disappointing, low-yield squish. Here’s how to get the most out of your press:
1. Use the Right Strain & Quality
- High-quality fresh-frozen or cured flower with high trichome density will always yield better results.
- Some strains press better than others—high-resin cultivars like GMO, Papaya, and Chem strains are ideal.
2. Dial in the Right Temperature
- Lower temp (170-190°F / 76-88°C): More terpenes, less yield, softer consistency.
- Higher temp (190-220°F / 88-104°C): Higher yield, but may burn off terpenes.
✅ Best balance: Start at 200°F (93°C) and adjust based on your material.
3. Apply Proper Pressure
- Too little pressure? Won’t extract efficiently.
- Too much pressure? Can push unwanted plant material into the rosin.
- Aim for 600-1000 PSI at the bag level for optimal yield.
4. Use the Right Micron Bags
- 90µ-120µ for flower (higher yield, slightly more plant matter).
- 25µ-45µ for hash & sift (cleaner, but lower yield).
5. Preheat & Press Slow
- Gently preheat the material for 10-15 seconds before applying full pressure.
- Gradually increase pressure over 30-60 seconds for a steady flow.
Final Tip:
Pressing dry or low-quality flower? Try rehydrating it slightly with a humidity pack (62%) before pressing for better yields!
